About us

Avanza is a globally inspired band that is making a unique splash in the Boston music scene. We're doing this by introducing audiences to the world musical stylings and international cultural influences they could never find. Our approach is to take contemporary pop and infuse it with traditional musical influences from Spain, Latin America, and other parts of the world. We sing in multiple languages, including: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Hindi, and more! We do this so as many people as possible can see themselves represented and share in our music. Our goal is to make a change in the Boston music scene by getting more people to fall in love with Spanish, Latin, and world music and bring people of all backgrounds together to hear a part of their identity represented in a way that anyone can appreciate.  
 
We have played at numerous venues including Sam Adams Brewery, Oyster Fest in Long Island NY, the Roslindale Farmer's Market, The Square Root Café, The Cantab Lounge, and countless private events. The band recognizes that Spanish and Latin music is under-represented in the Boston music scene and is continually inspired by the Spanish speaking community that has come out to support us. Spanish and Latin music has enriched our lives profoundly and provided the opportunity for us to share it in a new and innovative form. It has also allowed us to meet so many friendly and supportive members of the Boston community who love this music and want to share in our mission.

Grace Michael Dean

Grace Michael Dean is a singer-songwriter based in the Boston area. With a background in musical theater and opera, Grace has appeared in over 30 productions, with favorite roles from Captain Hook in Peter Pan to Velma Kelly in Chicago. She lived in Madrid, Spain for two years, where she began writing and performing in Spanish. Currently, she also works as a speech-language pathologist and early childhood music teacher with Sound Play Music. Zack Reiter

Zack joined this project in 2023 and has had a phenomenal time since. Hailing from a background of concert percussion and drum set, Zack had only been in a metal band prior to Avanza. However he is always one to learn, and has found exploring Latin percussion to be extremely rewarding. He hopes to honor the rich traditions of these music styles while adding a modern American flair. A software developer by trade, he is currently teaching computer science courses at Bunker Hill Community College. He lives in the Boston area with his fiancée Maddie and two cats, Clara and Ollie.

Alex Ross

Alex Ross is a Boston-based musician/actor/arts administrator who is excited to be joining Avanza as their bassist! Originally performing as an actor/vocalist for most of his life, Alex is looking forward to getting you up and grooving at Avanza’s performances! After graduating from Brandeis University, Alex has had the pleasure of working at multiple theatre companies in the New England area, including Penobscot Theatre Company, Actors Company of Natick, & Speak About It. Alex currently works at Boston Ballet as a Box Office Associate/Social Media Ambassador and is completing a Masters of Science in Arts Administration with a certificate in Commercial Theatre Development at Boston University. Alex currently resides in Medford, MA!
